The Cannes Film Festival's Best Human Document award of 1956 had gone to Pather Panchali. This was the first award for a Ray film at any major international film festival and it is only appropriate that Cannes is keen on a retrospective. What the ten films will be are under discussion and the ones that have been restored could be part of the package.
