Scientists analysed five hours of sounds picked up by the Perseverance Mars rover that landed on the Red Planet in February 2021 and deployed its two microphones. While they were expecting sound to travel slowly on Mars (relative to Earth), different speeds for high-pitched and low-pitched sounds are a big revelation they had not anticipated.
