The Indian Supreme Court agreed to hear a plea for an independent investigation of the shoot-out that killed gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj. The two were killed at point-blank range when three men, pretending to be journalists, opened fire in front of police personnel. The plea also seeks an inquiry into 183 police encounters in Uttar Pradesh since 2017.
