West Bengal Assembly Election 2026 Live Updates: Bengal Heads to Phase 2 Vote with Mamata Banerjee Among 1,000+ Contestants , KD News,

Voting is set to begin at 7:00am on Wednesday in the second and final phase of West Bengal’s assembly elections, with attention focused on whether the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) can make inroads into the stronghold of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), led by Mamata Banerjee. A total of 142 seats are voting in this phase, covering key districts including Kolkata, Howrah, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia district, Hooghly district and Purba Bardhaman district — areas traditionally regarded as the TMC’s political base.

Particular focus is on Bhabanipur, the constituency represented by Ms Banerjee, which is seen as a key battleground in the contest. She is being challenged by Suvendu Adhikari, a former ally who defected to the BJP and is widely viewed as a leading contender for chief minister should the party secure victory.

The outcome of this phase is expected to play a decisive role in determining whether the BJP can mount a serious challenge to the TMC’s dominance in the state. A total of 3,21,73,837 electors are eligible to vote in this phase.
