Maruti Suzuki Flex Fuel Car Launch Live: Maruti Suzuki is set to take a major step in India's alternative-fuel journey with the unveiling of the country's first mass-market E100-compatible flex-fuel passenger vehicle today. The unveil, scheduled ahead of World Environment Day, will showcase a production-ready model capable of running on petrol as well as ethanol blends up to E100. The event at Taj Palace, New Delhi, will be attended by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri, both of whom have been strong advocates of ethanol-based mobility in India.
Maruti Fronx Or Wagon R?
While Maruti Suzuki has not officially revealed the model name, industry reports suggest the vehicle could be based on either the Wagon R Flex Fuel prototype previously showcased in India or the Fronx Flex Fuel concept displayed globally. Both vehicles have already demonstrated compatibility with high-ethanol fuel blends, making them strong contenders for today's unveiling.
Design
From a design standpoint, major styling changes are not expected. Instead, the focus is likely to remain on the flex-fuel technology itself, with subtle exterior graphics or badging differentiating the model from its conventional petrol counterpart. Inside, buyers can expect the familiar Maruti Suzuki cabin layout along with features already offered on the donor vehicle, including a touchscreen infotainment system, smartphone connectivity, automatic climate control and multiple safety features depending on the variant.
Flex Fuel Engine
The biggest talking point will be the powertrain. The flex-fuel engine is expected to operate on fuel blends ranging from standard petrol to 100 per cent ethanol, supporting the government's push to reduce crude oil imports and increase ethanol adoption. While ethanol fuel is generally cheaper than petrol, vehicles running on higher ethanol blends typically record lower fuel efficiency than equivalent petrol-powered versions.
Price
Pricing remains under wraps, but industry estimates suggest a modest premium over the standard petrol model due to additional fuel-system modifications required for E100 compatibility. Stay tuned as we bring you live updates on the official launch, price announcement, specifications, mileage claims and everything else revealed from the event floor.
